Spies in Bitterland is a quest in Panfu. It was added in March 2011 alongside Bitterland. To unlock the quest, pandas must complete The Chronicler.

Story

Spies in Bitterland starts off at the Terrace. Max wants to infiltrate Bitterland to discover what is happening there. The panda then sets off with Max on a balloon boat. The boat crashes into Bitterland and they discover the sad happenings. Pandas are enslaved carrying flour-bags into Evron's castle. Max decides to disguise as the workers and go into Evron's castle. Max then distracts the guards by doing the Michael Jackson Moonwalk, while the panda snaps a picture of Evron, right before the guards discovers their true identities. Meanwhile, Ella throws two ropes down into the castle, rescuing the panda and Max before retreating back to Panfu. After looking at the polaroid of Evron, it was known that he was forcing the slaves to bring him flour in order to make a giant pancake that would drag Bitterland to Panfu.

Trivia

• This quest is the only way you can enter Evron's castle.
• The quest awards you with the spy suit and is the only way to get this item.
• It is called letsGoThere and EvronQuest1 in the game files, the latter suggesting there was supposed to be a follow-up quest, also evident by the fact that it ended on a cliffhanger.
• There is an unused voice line for Max, saying Woah, that must've hurt! Maybe we should think of a plan first.
  • Code that is commented out shows that this was meant for a cut part of the quest where the panda would get tased by the guard.
• Unused voice lines for Max has him saying "Help! Help! Am I dead? I see a light at the end of the tunnel! Mummy...? ...Grandma...? ...Ella...?" after crash landing in Bitterland. In the released quest he only says "Mummy...? ...Ella...?".
• A unused voice line for Max has him saying "Behind the bushes the guards can't see us! We need to find a safe way past them!", presumably said during the hiding scene in Bitterland Crossroad.
• While the panda holds the needle to remove the bags from the slaves, a removed situation would be shown if the panda clicked Max, with him saying Stop that! and showing an angry reaction. Clicking Max too many times would also reset the states, making Max repeat all his lines from after the crash landing.
• A unused voice line for Max has him saying "Lay the sack on the pile with the others, [panda name].", presumably said during the scene in Evron's castle.
• Assets for the quest were first created on February 10, 2011, and were last modified on February 24, 2011.
